The Veterans Mental Health Innovation Project Accelerator (VMH IPA)

Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) and the National Network of Operational Stress Injury Clinics (NOSIC) take pride in being a learning healthcare system. VAC and Colleaga have co-sponsored the VMH IPA as a continuous improvement system to address the challenges of delivering mental health care to Canadian Veterans.

The VMH IPA is a collaboration in the Colleaga Mental Health Innovation Institute, nurturing a portfolio of innovations that significantly improve timely care and veteran experience in the network of Operational Stress Injury Clinics across Canada.

The VMH IPA includes:

  • The Veterans Mental Health Innovation Program: a community of practice for Innovation Fellows involved in an active learning process designed to output successful and scalable innovation projects that improve timely access and veteran experience of mental health care.
  • The Veterans Mental Health Innovation Community of Interest: a network of people who communicate, build relationships, and share knowledge about innovations in veteran mental health.

The VMH IPA combines active learning with a disciplined innovation process.

The "learning" is done in the active learning program, where expert knowledge is shared through a series of 4 workshops. The "doing" is where Innovation Fellows deliver valuable outputs using templates, examples, expert help, and knowledge gained through the active learning program.
